Indigo airlines flights started in the year 2006 when Indigo's flight took off from Delhi to Imphal via Guwahati. Under the guidance of Interglobe Technologies which has a lot of experience in the travel and hospitality industry in India . The story Indigo Airlines started with a shocking order of 100 Airbus Aircrafts consisting of A320s and A321s at the Paris Air Show 2005.These Airbus Aircrafts were to be delivered to Indigo airlines over a span of 10years. This was the largest Aircraft order ever given by an Indian aviation company and had a total price tag of 6.5Billion US Dollars. This large order by Indigo Airways clearly demonstrated the aggressive strategy to be expected from Indigo in the future.

Indigo Airlines frequency and flight destinations are likely to increase as more Aircrafts are delivered by Airbus in the coming years. Airbus delivered the first A320 on July, 2006 and is expected to deliver a total of 15 aircrafts by the end of 2007. Indigo Airline flights fly to 15 destinations currently. Indigo Airways has so far been a serious contender in the Low cost carrier segment of India and has captured around 6 p.c. of the Indian domestic market. Some of the recent activities on the Indigo airlines front have been the primarily expansionary in nature. Indigo has been adding flights and destinations continuously to its arsenal in the past few years. Services provided by Indigo on its flights have been competitive and cost effective at the same time.

Indigo Airlines is currently lead by Former US Airways Executive Vice-President, Marketing and Planning Bruce Ashby and is expected to give tough competition in the time to come.
